On April 24, 2019 An article, titled “The Academy won’t change its rules to exclude Netflix from the Oscars” written by Jon Porter, stated that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are against changing entry rules for eligible films from online streaming services like Netflix or Hulu to be submitted for the Oscars, primarily to favor more to theatrical released films unless they follow the Rule Two which announces that films can be nominated as long as it has a seven-day theater release. It even got Steven Spielberg and other big blockbuster directors to be against the concept of having online streaming movies to be elected as the nominees without the token of being in theaters for a few weeks calling them “Tv Movies”.

As a filmmaker, this limits the integrity and recognition for other non-theatrical movies, as well as narrowing down potential nominees for the Oscars. In addition, making it difficult for the upcoming generations of films being produced in a digital age. Maybe soon they will come there minds and go against it, only time will tell reassured.

What are your thoughts about streaming movies not being nominated for the Oscars?
